Rustic charm and beauty abounds at Pere Marquette Lodge. From the massive double-sided stone fireplace to the huge cathedral log ceilings, the lodge is a cozy and welcoming place. Our room was in the Old Wing and had doors original to the 1930′s lodge. The hiking trails were well-marked and color-coded by difficulty. We worked up an appetite and found the dining to be exceptional with delicious, well-presented food and an extensive wine list. But don’t skip breakfast in the morning — you’ll find the same attention to detail. Not just a hot waffle you make yourself from a mix in a styrofoam cup. Pere Marquette Lodge is true Y’dstoti! You don’t see that on the interstate!

Starved Rock State Park a favorite Y’dstoti location for hiking, great food, & spending a romantic night away. We were last there on St. Patrick’s Day & chose to stay in a deluxe cabin with a King bed & fireplace – complete with free kindling! The hiking trails are fun, well-planned & surprising at the same time. There are look-outs built in just the right places to view the many canyons, streams, & waterfalls. The long wooden stairways to Starved Rock & down to the Illinois River are breathtaking, in more ways than one! There are several dining options available including a cafe, dining room, lounge, & outdoor veranda overlooking the scenic Illinois River. On this trip we decided on the dining room where we enjoyed listening to Irish music to honor the day. The meal was delicious, as were the blueberry pancakes the next morning at breakfast. We are looking forward to returning soon! Y’dstoti!
