Indiana State Parks
Roy’s first time on a tandem bicycle, at Turkey Run State Park in Indiana. The last time I rode a bike, I flipped over the handlebars and landed on my back in a ditch. But, we decided to give it a chance, together. It was $10 for an hour. When I asked the young girl at the desk how they handle it if we go over the hour, she just smiled like she knew there was no way we would be gone that long. Did she know our history? We actually did better than either of us thought. And we returned the bike in exactly an hour — after resting on the curb by the Nature Center for 20 minutes! When you’re at Turkey Run, rent a bike and don’t take yourself too seriously!

Drive over the two-lane covered bridge to enter 15,776 acre Brown County State park just outside of Nashville, Indiana. The Abe Martin Lodge, built by the Veterans Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930′s, has 84 lodge rooms, the Little Gem Restaurant, and a new 12,000 square foot aquatic center. The park also has cabins for rent as well as camping and miles of hiking trails. A true Y’dstoti experience!
Hiking, a waterfall, birdwatching & duck “fighting” were a great way to start a spring day at Spring Mill State Park. The 1930′s era limestone lodge is decorated with handmade wooden rocking chairs and comfy handmade quilts. We were a little late getting to dinner and they had the grill turned off. But they gladly fired up the grill to make me a patty melt, which was delicious! Bird books are strategically placed along the dining room windowsills to help identify the myriad of birds feeding outside. While we only had time to enjoy a small portion of what there is to offer, we look forward to returning soon! Y’dstoti!
